Rain keeps the bees at home…

This crummy weather has kept us mostly inside, and the bees don’t forage when it’s raining, so they’re all at home in the hive and not happy about it.  So it’s best to stay away.

Since I was restless, I spent some time prepping the new hive.  I had seen some ideas for horizontal hives that allows you to see the bees without actually opening the cover boards.  That will let me do quick observations without bothering them.

There they are, fiberglass covers.  I’m going to cut out some foam pads to cover the glass when I’m not observing, because the 🐝 like it dark, except when they’re out foraging.  The plastic thing in the middle is a feeder that will be used when there’s no nectar flow.  I may make one more cover board for when I want to leave the feeder out.  I’ll let you all know.

My new frames came in on Thursday, so I’m ready for bees, I just have to put it out back where it’s going to go, but I’m going to need to get some help, it’s too heavy for me and Colleen to move. I need more bees!
