Don't buy anything from Ergoal

I use a Herman Miller Aeron chair at work and I absolutely love it, but they are a bit pricy, even a refurbished one runs around $600.  I had been looking at them online and imagine my surprise when an ad popped up on my Facebook feed for the Ergoal One chair for $397.  I take a look at the site and see 4 and 5 star reviews and looked for other reviews online. I didn't find much either way, so I decided to take a chance.

When the chair arrived, I thought the base looked a bit iffy (you can see it's just a metal cast, with no additional support inside).  I went ahead and assembled it and gave it a try anyway.  The chair is rated for 300 lbs, so it should be able to support my fat ass (225 lb).  I put it in my home office and didn't really use it all that much because I was in the office much of the week (!) that I had it.  It was just ok, not near as comfortable as my Aeron, but was willing to give it time to break in.   Less than I week after I assembled it, as I leaned back in the chair, the base deformed as shown in the picture above and I fell ass over teakettle, fortunately I wasn't injured.

I immediately contacted Ergoal support telling them that I just wanted my money back (30 day guarantee), not a replacement part, since I had no confidence that the replacement would be any better.  The guarantee requires the purchaser to pay return shipping, but in this case I felt that since the product was defective, the company should provide shipping.  I got two weeks of run around from Ergoal, they first offered a $50 refund and a replacement part, which I told them was unacceptable.  In the end they would not pay for return shipping (supposedly because the original shipping was free) and would only provide a refund if I shipped it back at my cost (around $120).  I did so and eventually got my refund but only after pimping them via email a week after I got notification that it was delivered to them.  Then they had the nerve to ask for a review of the chair with a picture!  I happily provided a 1 star review with the picture in this post (since 0 stars was not an option), but to my great surprise (not) when I go to the Ergoal website, my review is not displayed.

Do not recommend, don't waste your time or money on this chair.
